Are Single Fan Gpu Bad?

Many people have been asking about the new single fan GPU’s, and whether or not it’s a bad idea to buy one.

The short answer is no, they are not bad. The long answer is a bit more complicated, but let me explain why I think so:

First of all, we need to understand that most modern GPUs have a heat sink with multiple fans anyway – so from a cooling perspective, there won’t be any difference between a single fan and multi-fan design.

Secondly, let’s talk about performance: If you’re buying a GPU for gaming purposes only, then there is no reason why you should care if your card has 2GB or 4GB of VRAM or even 8GB if your motherboard supports it – you’ll never see more than 3GB of VRAM used in any modern title anyway (yes, including Witcher 3). In fact, even when you’re playing games at 4k resolution with high levels of AA enabled – 2GB will be enough for most titles.

Thirdly, let’s talk about power consumption: Most modern graphics cards consume around 150W at full load (which is around 20% more than their predecessors), which means that even if you go for an overclocked model with factory overclock applied.
